3.1 PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 4. Teachers Public Relations Responsibilities:

Teachers can have a great influence on how members of the public view the quality of education in a district. This is particularly true of parents. When youngsters in school have. positive relationships with teachers, they tend to reports parents are inclined to be satisfied with the quality  of struction their children are receiving. In many respects then public perceptions of educations depend on the existence of positive and open communication between teachers and parents.In recent years a number of trends have acted to decrease the opportunities for easy parent-teacher, contact especially in larger districts. With increased in size the physical distance between homes and schools has increased. This situation has been compounded by decisions to bus young series to school far from their home neighborhoods to achieve a balance in schools throughout entire school districts. This physical separation between place of residence and the school has made it increasingly difficult for parents to get to the school and know individual teachers well. A consequence has been that teachers in many instances have come to be viewed as an impersonal arm of distant school administrative authorities rather than as "real people" interested in working with the youngsters of parents with whom they are well acquainted.Many teachers in large urban settings have worked hard to maintain strong links with parents. But when such efforts have not been undertaken parents have become suspicious about educators performance and in a few instances downright hostile. This can be extremely dangerous for educator's community sanding. When parents begin to lose their faith in the excellence of the schools the rest of the community is almost certain to follow suit. Many prospective teachers and even experienced teachers who were raised in middle-class communities find it difficult to imagine groups.

Character Development Responsibilities:

  • To create an atmosphere of purposeful order, toenlist pupil's assistance in orderly, friendly, courteous and co-operative inter personal relations.
  • To develop a respect for the rights, privileges, opinion, properly and individualities of others
  • To create group situations which will develop desirable leadership and followership qualities in the pupils
  • To set a standard of class-room and school environment behaviour which conforms to socially acceptable behaviour
  • To direct discussion and develop understanding on normal and other ethical issues in order to develop understanding of the reasons for ethical standard.
  • To encourage individuality in each pupil's thinking and action.

Effective Teaching Learning Responsibilities:

  • To select materials, teaching aids and methods which will facilitate the learning process and stimulate the desire for further learning
  • To meet the needs, background and capacities of the children being taught
  • To teach by use of a suitable variety of these lectures, discussions, demonstrations, visual and oral presentations, recitation, directed group effort, experimentation, special projects and field trips.
  • To analyses and evaluate the effectiveness of various teaching techniques in order to improve the learning process.
  • To endeavour to obtain and maintain pupil interest and attention so that teaching is done in a receptive atmosphere.
  • To endeavor to assure that material taught is applied in such a manner at to develop a pattern of understanding for future use in other areas.
  • To encourage and guide critical thinking by pupils
  • To develop desirable work and study skills and habits
  • To enlist pupil participation in the lesson planning process.
  • To develop broad outlines and objectives to be attained within prescribed limits, for a subject or skill area based upon the needs an interests of a specific group of pupils
  • To assure that preparation adequate to assure purposeful and directed teaching precedes all actual class-room teaching
  • To make suitable lesson plans and other necessary arrangements for substitutes.

Family and Community Related Responsibilities:

  • To participate in parent teacher and similar activities
  • To participate in community affairs
  • To make himself available to parents at scheduled times to discuss pupil progress and behaviour
  • To envice a sympathetic helpful and understanding attitude towards parents and their child-schooling problems
  • To establish and maintain a good relationship with parents and conducting reporting of pupil progress,problems and needs.
  • To assure through personal behaviour in the community that the public school staff image in the community is favourable.

Professional Growth and Ethical Responsibilities:

  • To keep abreast of the developments in the teaching profession.
  • To maintain membership in key professional organizations relevant to his subject or area specialty.
  • To manifest ethical behaviour in his relations with fellow teachers and educational associates.
  • To exercise professional discretion in his relations with parents and town's people.
  • To keep abreast of subject matter by study of books, periodicals, newspapers and other concerning development in his field.
  • To utilize films, filmstrips, T.V. and radio as means of keeping abreast of new and advanceknowledge in his field.
  • To attend conferences, workshops, seminars and meetings; to take field trips which tend to broaden his knowledge.

Evaluation and Reporting of Pupil Performance:

  • To devise and administer appropriate tests to measure the level and quality of pupil learning.
  • TO interpret test results and relate findings to pupil progress or lack of it in order to improve the teaching and learning process.
  • To evaluate pupil performances through reports, recitations, home work and other types of assignments.
  • To report pupil achievement and progress to parents by means of conferences and progress reports.
  • To co-operate and enlist the co-operation of school specialists in the process of pupil evaluation as required.

Curriculum Development and ImplementationResponsibilities:

  • To participate in grade level or subject matter study of existing curricula and in the development of improved expanded curricula
  • To determine the objectives, scope and methods of the grade or subjects to be taught
  • To device assignments, when necessary in order to enrich the teaching programme for the pupils.
  • To correlate his subject matter curriculum with the curriculum of other subjects.

Adjusting to Individual Differences and Development Levels:

  • To draw upon and to apply basic knowledge of the psychology of the child in order to establish readiness for learning.
  • To make an effort to know as much as possible about the background and out-of-school environment of each child, in order to improve the teaching learning process
  • To develop in each pupil a sense of personal growth and value
  • To maintain discipline by being consistently friendly, fair and firm
  • To handle behaviour problems in a controlled manner.

Class-room Management Responsibilities:

  • To assign responsibility to pupils for the care and house keeping of the rooms physical assets
  • To develop, prepare or provide material and equipment and to display in a manner so as to improve the learning situation
  • To maintain the school room in a healthful and safe condition, assuring proper lighting, ventilation etc
  • To prepare and maintain orderly and accurately all required records, such as attendance registers.

Total School Effectiveness:

  • To accept responsibility for pupil discipline throughout the school and in the interest of the school as a whole.
  • To co-operate with all co-workers and to exchange ideas in order to improve and provide variety of approach on the teaching situation.
  • To execute all required school regulations and assignments on time.
  • To accept his full share of pupil activity participation, such as attending athletic contest etc.
  • To contribute constructively to committees, faculty meetings and other school system groups.
  • To take positive steps in developing and maintaining faculty and student morale.
  • To provide his fair share of dependable and effective participation in activities involving the general welfare of the school.
