2.2.B-Science Laboratory

Laboratory design is considered as the most important step towards laboratory teaching, organization and management. A laboratory is like a growing organ  where internal changes and re-arrangements keeps on changing but overall design and structure remains unchanged.

The main features to be found in a laboratory are:

1. Laboratory benches including the side benches.

2.Bench services: water, gas, and electric supplies.

In Science laboratory water is usually obtained from taps connected to water pipes or from aspirators.

Heat is obtained by burning:

• Gas from the mains
• Gas from portable tanks called bottled gas
• Solid chemical fuel
• Liquid fuel i.e. a spirit lamps

Electricity is obtained from:

• Dry cells
• Lead acid accumulators
• Direct from the mains
